Excellent Usability for Successful Implementation
Successful process improvement usually results in a well-defined and fully operational process management system, which institutionalizes the standard processes in daily businesses activities. Good usability is a key factor for the successful establishment of such a system in a corporation.
The excellent usability of the Butterfly system greatly reduces the difficulties when end users are learning the system and makes it easy to enforce the standard processes. It not only satisfies the process management needs of the development teams, but also provides good accessibility for non-technical users, such as sales, marketing personnel, external customers, etc.
End users of the Butterfly system use common Web browsers to access the system. There is no need to install any client application. They will manage changes in their projects via Butterfly Web.
Butterfly employs friendly Inbox/Outbox-like structure to organize the change requests and coordinate the stateflow transitions. A user can check tasks assigned to him in his own Inbox, and process them accordingly. He/she can also track the status of issues submitted by him.
Butterfly provides easy to use query, chart and report tools, which allow users to retrieve desired data and design reports with printable charts and tables.
Butterfly Web UI adopts a simple and clean style, very easy to navigate. This B/S architecture proves to be very effective and cost saving in the rollout and maintenance of process management system.
Figure 6. Butterfly Web UI
Butterfly supports Web UI customization to different needs. Admin can define different Web UI templates for users performing different roles. A Web UI template defines the contents displayed in the Butterfly Web, including the menu tree structure (hiding, showing, and ordering of nodes), shortcut buttons, main page content, etc. With Web UI templates, users in different roles can browse and navigate the Butterfly web more conveniently and efficiently.
A user can further adjust the web UI to suit his own needs, and use private folders to store and organize contents of interests.
