What's new in Firefly 3.0

Firefly 3.1 is a major release which introduces Unified Configuration and Change Management solution through integration with Hansky Butterfly, our very flexible and extremely powerful change request management system.

Change requests (or issues) are created in Butterfly and can then complete their life cycles inside Firefly Client GUI. Developers can view available change requests using the Change Request tab in Firefly Client and create corresponding changeset or changesets accordingly, which is what task-oriented development is all about. (This cross-reference information can be shown in both Firefly and Butterfly.)  After the developer submitted changeset(s), the CR can then move on to the next state. In fact, developers do not have to leave Firefly Client GUI to get information or do transition of a change request. Butterfly web UI is fully integrated into Firefly Client.

Using this new release, developers will fall in love with task-oriented development process. Firefly plus Butterfly together provide a complete workflow to track not just the change trails, but also the detail information of what have been done in code repository.  Managers can also benefit from this release.  Using Butterfly web UI, managers can monitor changes of their projects, drilled down to source code line level.

One added benefit of Firefly's tight integration with Butterfly is that code review is now even easier. Reviewing code changes can start from navigating through pending change requests and before the modifications are allowed back in the code line. Changesets associated with an issue is listed under the 'Changeset' tab in Butterfly web UI. From there you can review all code changes related to a certain issue.

SSL supported

To address the increasing concern of security, Firefly 3.1 has added native support of the Secure Socket Layer protocol, which is often referred to as SSL. Any data transmitted between Firefly client and server can now be configured to take advantage of SSL.

Firefly Web now supports HTTPS as well. With a simple selection of a check your data will stay safe and sound.

No extra effort is needed, such as setting up SSH tunneling.

More Built-in Report

In this version, we provide more built-in reports in Firefly Server Explorer to present more valuable information inside Firefly repositories to project managers.

Built-in Reports in Firefly 3.1 help you to get the following information more easily:

  • status and settings of projects/branches/labels
  • history of a branch
  • differences between two branches/labels
  • tasks done by different developers

Audit Trail

Firefly repositories keep the most valuable digital asset for you.  You want to know who did what, and when.  Firefly 3.1 provides a tool to view all audit trail information of operations accessing Firefly repositories. In Firefly Administrator, you can start the Firefly auditor GUI. Operations logged are: to open/close a repository, to create a project, to create a branch, to change access control setting of branch, local workspace bringover, to submit a changeset, to checkout a file, and more.

Eclipse 3.0/3.1 Support

In previous version, we only support Eclipse 2.x. Now Eclipse 3.0/3.1 are supported You can use Firefly inside Eclipse 3.0/3.1.

Redesign File List

In Firefly 3.1, we redesigned the File List panel in Firefly Client GUI to boost usability.  In this version, you get more information of a file inside local workspace.

You can see file types, either a local private file, controlled file, a link, or a missing file.

You can view file versions, both in local workspace and on server.

You can get checkout information:
- are you editing this file locally
- is there anyone else editing this file, names are listed

You can see whether the content of a file is changed or not.

You can see what Firefly operations have been taken locally on a file. A yellow triangle is shown if you did any Firefly operation on the file, such as create, delta, move, rename, rollback, etc.

Two more filters are added: one filter shows files you need to submit, another filter shows files you need to bringover.
